3. Why did English colonists first adopt the institution of indentured servitude rather than Indian or African slavery to meet their demands for labor? Why, then, did African slavery replace indentured servitude?

4. Describe life in the American colonies at around 1750. Why is this type of life important for what comes later? (the War of Independence)

5. Why did the British government become more involved in the colonies after 1763? How did it govern the colonies before 1750? Explain the chronology of events that led to the War of Independence.
